After learning about how cute the botanical gardens in Swansea are from an amazing shoot my friend (and awesome photographer) Madison organised, I decided it was about time I ventured outside the centre and tried a few new things in my closest city!
After a quick visit to Square Peg, the community coffee house in Sketty, I wandered over to Singleton Park with an oat latte in hand.
After a few years focusing on film photography, I finally decided to pick up my SLR again and dedicate some time to enjoying the format again.
I found my way to Swansea Botanical Garden – a stunning, free garden with a wide range of different plants, trees and succulents.
The gardens are a great place to stroll around and enjoy the quiet. I spent a good hour and half taking my time looking at all the different plants and shooting everything – including the bees and bugs!
I was in plant heaven – so many different colours, shapes and sizes!
If you’re into flowers or just want a great new place to relax or explore then I recommend spending an hour or so here.
Once I’d exhausted all the photo ops, I decided to head from town over to the beach and collect a bike on the way.
I haven’t ridden a bike in years. I know it’s not the kind of thing you forget how to do and I was optimistic I’d be okay…
Although I was fine, I underestimated just how much core strength it takes to stop from wobbling all over the place!
Once I had the hang of it, you couldn’t stop me. I was soaring across the seafront with the biggest smile on my face. Well worth the £2 it cost to rent the bike for an hour!
Next time I plan to ride across the front to Mumbles for a visit. I highly recommend taking a bike along the front – it’s a great workout with an even better view.
I rented the bike through the Santander Cycles and although it was a lovely bike and a good price, the system isn’t the most reliable or easy to access so that’s worth bearing in mind if you’re planning on taking the bikes out for a ride. It might be worth checking out other options first!
If you live in or around Swansea, what are some of your favourite things to do?
Let me know in the comments! I’m always looking for new things to do in the city.
