After following Ryan on his culinary adventures for a little while, I was excited to see how his new coffee bar and kitchen was growing.
I was lucky enough to win a recent IG competition for a free coffee and breakfast so I thought I’d share my first impressions of the space and the food!
Based in Aberkenfig, it’s a cosy but cool kitchen. Think black, white, metal and wood. Totally Instagram-friendly but it’s definitely not style over substance – at all. You get a warm welcome, lovely atmosphere and the food very much does the talking.
We were greeted by an ever-enthusiastic Ryan pouring a fresh espresso. I don’t usually drink black coffee (I’m more of a latte girl) but I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and rich it was.
We got to watch Ry at work as he pieced together the vegan and meat topped waffle dishes on offer – it definitely adds to the experience seeing your food being prepared and crafted before you tuck in!
Then the dish was served – a stunning plate of a vegan waffle topped with cream cheese, avocado, tomatoes, pickled onions, broccoli, radish, lime and maple syrup.
I would never have thought to put these ingredients together – but boy, oh boy, does it work! Ryan definitely knows about matching flavours that both stand out individually but work well together too.
It was a perfect blend of sweet and savoury with a dollop of vegan cream cheese to tie it all together.
By the time we left, the kitchen was buzzing with people excited to join in on the breakfast club.
I’m definitely going to be trying more of iamattaboy’s culinary creations and totally recommend that you pay a visit if you’re in or around the area.
He’s doing a bunch of pop-ups around South Wales too so check out his IG page for more details.
