Fairytale and Folklore: My First Published Short Story

I am incredibly excited to share that my first published short story is now out in Issue 9 of Lucent Dreaming. Lucent Dreaming is an independent, biannual print magazine publishing “beautiful, strange and surreal short stories, poetry and artwork” by authors and artists across the world.

As a small, indie publisher in Wales, Lucent Dreaming has been at the top of my dream list to feature in since I started writing so I am honoured that they wanted to include my work – especially as this issue is inspired by fairytale, folklore and retelling old stories for new times.

My piece, Meadowsweet, is a feminist reimagining of the Welsh tale of Blodeuwedd. Inspired by nature, the power of women and my love of the uncanny, my retelling of the myth explores what Blodeuwedd’s fate might have been if events had taken a different path.

If you’d like to read the story, and all of the other great pieces include in Issue 9, you can buy a copy from Lucent Dreaming’s website (which I also highly recommend because the print copy is gorgeous!). You can also find previous issues and subscribe to keep up with future publications too! I will share a link to my piece when it’s available online.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Meadowsweet. I really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed imagining and writing it.
